S.M.A.R.T. Housing

The City of Charleston developed the S.M.A.R.T. housing program to help college students cover their living expenses. The program provides housing funds for students who are working while they’re in school, paying for college with loans, or receiving need-based financial aid.

Who Qualifies for S.M.A.R.T. Housing?

Students may be eligible for S.M.A.R.T. housing if they’re receiving need-based financial aid. Alternatively, students who are not receiving need-based financial aid may qualify for S.M.A.R.T. housing based on annual income.

Students seeking S.M.A.R.T. Housing qualification through financial aid should bring Financial Aid Award letters for the current year into the leasing office.

Students seeking S.M.A.R.T. Housing qualification through Income Verification should bring their most recent W2, 3 most-recent pay stubs, tuition bills and Financial Aid Award letters into the leasing office.

Submit your S.M.A.R.T. Housing application online:

Click “Apply Online” to submit your housing application. Then, complete the S.M.A.R.T. Housing forms and pay the applicable fees to find out if you qualify. Once your S.M.A.R.T. Housing qualification is confirmed, you’ll be able to sign your lease.
